Job summary

Northumbrian Water seeks a Wastewater Production Operator on a full-time six-month contract based at Stressholme, Darlington. The role focuses on safe and efficient operation of wastewater treatment works to protect the environment and support essential water services in the region.

You will operate and maintain plant assets, monitor performance via SCADA, perform basic analyses, and follow strict health and safety procedures. A UK driving licence is required for site-to-site travel.

• Operate and maintain works assets in accordance with regulatory requirements and company standards to ensure ongoing compliance.
• Optimise the use of plant assets, including chemicals, energy, and other resources, to achieve efficient operations.
• Carry out basic effluent and mixed liquor analysis, interpret results, and implement operational changes as required.
• Effectively use and interrogate the SCADA system to fault-find, monitor performance, and optimise plant utilisation.
• Perform basic instrument calibration in line with procedures.
• Undertake basic fault finding on plant and equipment and escalations as needed.

This full-time, temporary Production Operative post in Darlington runs for six months from early October, paying £14.62 hourly. Working Monday to Friday at the Stressholme site, the successful candidate joins Northumbrian Water's frontline team, ensuring wastewater treatment works run safely and efficiently while protecting the local environment. Duties cover operating and maintaining assets to meet regulatory and company standards, optimising plant performance through careful use of chemicals, energy and other resources, plus routine checks and basic maintenance tasks. Applicants should show practical plant experience, strong safety awareness, good teamwork and the ability to follow procedures accurately.
