Job summary

Durham County Council is seeking 3 Waste Operations Support Officers to work in the South and East of County Durham on a temporary basis until 1 June 2029. You will support the delivery of sustainable waste management, engage with residents and frontline crews, and help promote the council’s waste services.

Ideal candidates will have a valid driving licence, experience in public-facing roles and the ability to work independently as part of a team. Hybrid working arrangements may apply.

Qualifications

• Current Valid Driving Licence is required.
• Minimum 6 months driving experience after passing your test to drive a County Council vehicle.
• Experience of working directly with members of the public.

Responsibilities

• Support delivery of sustainable waste management services across County Durham.
• Work with residents, operational crews and stakeholders to reduce contamination and resolve issues.
• Support rollout and delivery of the food waste collection service and promote refuse and recycling services.

Refuse and Recycling are looking for 3 Waste Operations Support Officer to work in the South and East of County Durham.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?

You will support the delivery of sustainable waste management services across County Durham by working directly with residents, operational crews and stakeholders to improve participation, reduce contamination and resolve service issues.

You will support the rollout and ongoing delivery of the council’s food waste collection service, promote high quality refuse and recycling services, and provide advice and guidance to residents in relation to waste presentation, contamination and recycling participation.

WHAT WILL I NEED?

• Ability to demonstrate relevant knowledge and skills gained through work experience or training
• Current Valid Driving Licence
• A minimum of 6 months driving experience following passing your vehicle test to be eligible to drive a County Council vehicle
• Experience of working directly with members of the public.
• Experience of working alongside frontline operational services.
• Experience of promoting services or delivering engagement activities to a wide range of audiences.
• Experience of dealing with customer enquiries and complaints.
• Experience of working independently and as part of a team.Please refer to the attached Person Specification for the full criteria.
