Job summary

Gov Facilities Services Limited (GFSL) at HMP Whitemoor is seeking a Waste & Environmental Operative on a permanent, full-time basis (39 hours per week) with a salary of £27,505.80 per year. You will help manage waste and recycling, escort contractors, and drive sustainability within a Category A male prison environment.

The role supports a safe and secure environment for prisoners and staff, collaborating with Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, Cleaners and Admin to maintain high

Qualifications

• Experience of working within a Total Facilities Management (TFM) environment.
• Good understanding of health and safety requirements, including manual handling and COSHH.
• Ability to undertake manual handling and physical work.
• Ability to work under pressure, prioritise tasks, and work both independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of waste legislation, Duty of Care and environmental compliance (desirable).
• Experience within a custodial, secure or regulated environment, or of contractor supervision or escort duties (desirable).

We are seeking a dedicated Waste & Environmental Operative to join our team at HMP Whitemoor, a CATEGORY A & Male prison.

As a Waste & Environmental Operative you will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced and passionate colleagues who vary from Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Painters, to Cleaners, and Administrators, and others, who are all dedicated to making a positive difference, providing a safe and secure environment for all. You will manage the establishment’s waste and recycling in line with Simpler Recycling legislation, escort contractors around site, and help drive sustainability across the prison.

Future Plans.
GFSL has been notified by it’s shareholder (MOJ) that the provision of FM Services will in future be delivered by the private sector. This means that following a successful procurement process, GFSL’s services will complete transfer to a private sector provider/providers no sooner than August 2027.
