Job summary

Bradford Council is seeking reliable HGV Drivers to join our Waste Services team in Bradford. You will drive a food waste collection vehicle and assist with other routes, working outdoors in all weather to keep our community clean and safe.

Ideal candidates will hold a valid HGV Class 2 licence with Driver CPC, be physically fit, and comfortable using in-cab technology and completing paperwork. This is a frontline role with a strong team spirit and local authority benefits.

What You'll Be Doing

• Drive a specialist food waste collection vehicle and other HGV collection vehicles as required.
• Collect food waste and support other waste collection services across the district.
• Work closely with your team to complete daily routes safely and efficiently.
• Help supervise crew members and ensure safe working practices are followed.
• Operate in-cab technology and collection management systems.
• Identify and record contaminated containers in line with service procedures.
• Carry out daily vehicle inspections and basic maintenance checks.
• Complete vehicle records, defect reports and associated paperwork.
• Help ensure vehicles and equipment are clean, safe and well maintained.
• Deliver a courteous, helpful service to residents and local businesses.
• This is an active, physical role. You'll be on your feet and moving throughout the day, working outdoors in all weather conditions, and you'll finish each shift knowing you've made a real difference in keeping your community clean, safe and running smoothly.
