Job description

We are looking for two Waste Business Planning Managers to join the Waste Integrated Business Planning Team at Thames Water on a permanent basis.

Team Overview

The newly established Waste Integrated Business Planning Team will become a ‘Team Thames’ capability to own and maintain the business plan for the Waste business at Thames Water across the AMP, Annual and Quarterly planning horizons. The overall purpose of this team is to enable optimisation of spend across the Waste business to maximise performance across operational, environmental, customer and financial domains; ensuring senior leaders across the Waste business have the resources they need to deliver exceptional outcomes.

One Waste Business Planning Manager role will focus on the Waste Treatment business area, and the other on Waste Networks & Waste Pumping. All team members will have the opportunity to be involved in the full range of activities, given the team’s small but dynamic nature.

Role Responsibilities

1. Strategic Oversight: Provide strategic oversight of the Integrated Business Plan by delivering insights that support sustainable investment decisions.
2. Business Planning & Updates: Lead the Waste IBP process, ensuring planning reflects operational needs and regulatory requirements, with regular updates and performance evaluations.
3. Investment Analysis: Analyze investment scenarios, optimize trade-offs, and recommend prioritization to achieve the best outcomes.
4. Quality Assurance: Ensure updates are accurate, timely, and aligned with strategic goals.
5. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication: Lead internal and external communications related to Waste IBP updates to foster buy-in and collaboration.

Candidate Requirements

• Experience in regulated business planning processes.
• Deep understanding of the water industry and regulatory frameworks.
• Strong analytical skills, including model building in MS Excel.
• Proven ability to draft clear management papers using MS PowerPoint and Word.
• Experience in stakeholder engagement and relationship building.
• Pragmatic decision-making skills, with a focus on value optimization.
