Job summary

R & L Slaughter in Basildon is seeking a Warehouse Operative / Relief Driver to join the on-site team. You will receive, unload, check documents, and accurately pick and pack orders for dispatch while handling vehicles and delivering across London and the South East.

The role requires reliability, health and safety awareness, a clean driving licence, and the ability to work with colleagues in a busy warehouse. ADR qualification will be supported by the company.

Qualifications

• Experience with core warehouse operations (unloading, packing, stock control).
• Ability to operate forklifts or other handling equipment; forklift certification is a plus.
• Strong health & safety awareness and safe manual handling practices.
• Clean, valid driving licence suitable for light commercial vehicles; delivery experience helpful.
• Good attention to detail and ability to follow delivery/stock paperwork.

Responsibilities

• Receive and unload deliveries and check goods against documentation.
• Safely store, pick, and pack products for dispatch.
• Operate material handling equipment and maintain a clean warehouse.
• Load vehicles and deliver orders across London and the South East.
• Represent the company professionally during customer interactions.

Role Description:

The Warehouse Operative / Relief Driver is a full-time, on-site role based in Basildon. Day-to-day responsibilities include receiving and unloading deliveries, checking goods against documentation, and safely storing, picking, and packing products for dispatch. The role involves operating material handling equipment, maintaining an organised and clean warehouse environment, and following established health and safety procedures. As a relief driver, the position includes loading vehicles, delivering orders to customers across London and the South East, and representing the company professionally during customer interactions. The role requires accurate record-keeping, collaboration with colleagues, and flexibility to support other warehouse tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

• Experience with core warehouse operations, including unloading, packing, and general material handling.
• Ability to operate forklifts or other material handling equipment; valid forklift certification is an advantage.
• Strong awareness of health & safety practices, with a commitment to safe working and manual handling procedures.
• Clean and valid driving licence suitable for light commercial vehicles; previous delivery experience is beneficial.
• Good attention to detail, basic numeracy and literacy skills, and ability to accurately follow delivery and stock documentation.
• Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented warehouse environment.
• Physical capability to handle regular lifting, moving, and loading tasks in a busy warehouse setting.
• Previous experience in distribution, logistics, or a laboratory supply environment is an advantage but not essential.

Additional Information:

Due to the nature of our products, the successful candidate will be required to complete an ADR (Carriage of Dangerous Goods) qualification. Full support will be provided to obtain this certification.
