Job summary

GXO Logistics in Northampton is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead a high‑volume retail distribution site. You will drive safety, service and efficiency while owning the end‑to‑end operation and a 37.5 hour week with flexible coverage for 24/7 needs.

Salary up to £70,000 per annum, 25 days leave plus bank holidays, pension, private medical/dental, 24/7 GP, and GXO University for ongoing development. You’ll build strong teams and deliver consistent KPI performance.

Here at GXO Logistics, we're looking for an Operations Manager to join our new retail distribution operation in Northampton. This is a purpose designed, dedicated site servicing over 250+ stores, where speed, accuracy and service are critical – and where you'll play a key role in leading a high volume, MHE heavy operation with a strong focus on cost control and customer delivery. This is a standout opportunity to lead a new, flagship site from the ground up. With a combination of automation, high volume throughput and complex operational flows, you'll be at the centre of a business where cost, quality and service are equally critical. You'll have real ownership of the operation, the chance to shape culture and performance, and the support of a strong leadership team. It's a role where you can make a tangible impact every single day.

This is a full time, permanent position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, either 08:00 – 16:00 or 09:00 – 17:00. Flexibility will be required to support a 24/7 operation when needed, this is logistics after all!

What you’ll do on a typical day

• Lead the end to end operation across inbound, outbound and support functions, ensuring service, quality and cost KPIs are consistently achieved
• Own shift performance, driving productivity, accuracy and safety across a high volume, case picking operation
• Manage resources, labour planning and cost control, balancing efficiency with service delivery
• Build and develop strong teams, creating a high performance culture with clear expectations and accountability
• Work closely and collaboratively with the customer and internal stakeholders, ensuring seamless communication and aligned priorities

What you need to succeed at GXO

• Proven experience in a senior warehouse or operations management role, ideally within a fast paced, retail distribution environment
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to engage, develop and inspire large teams
• Commercial mindset with a clear understanding of cost drivers, budget control and KPI delivery
• Strong knowledge of warehouse operations, MHE environments and compliance standards
• Confident stakeholder manager who can build relationships and influence at all levels
• Analytical and data driven, with the ability to interpret performance and drive improvement
