Warehouse Manager
Location: East Leeds
Salary: £50,000 per annum
Start Date: 1 October 2026
The Role
We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Warehouse Manager to take ownership of our client's warehouse and logistics operation in East Leeds. This position is working for an exciting SME on a growth trajectory.
You will lead a team of warehouse operatives across picking and packing, overseeing the full warehouse process from goods in through to picking, packing and goods out. Customer orders will be generated by the Customer Service team, with you responsible for ensuring those orders are processed accurately, efficiently and on time.
This is a key operational role for someone who enjoys being close to the day-to-day running of a warehouse, while also having the ability to improve processes, develop a team and introduce greater structure and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Warehouse & Logistics Operations
- Take full responsibility for the day-to-day warehouse and logistics operation.
- Lead, organise and motivate a team of 10 pickers and packers.
- Oversee the complete warehouse flow:
- Goods in and receipt of deliveries
- Put‑away and storage
- Stock movement
- Order picking
- Packing and dispatch
- Goods out and collections
- Ensure customer orders received from Customer Service are picked, packed and dispatched accurately and within agreed timescales.
- Plan daily workloads and allocate resources effectively to meet demand.
- Coordinate with Customer Service, suppliers, couriers and other internal teams to resolve operational issues.
Stock Control
- Maintain accurate stock records and ensure stock is stored and handled correctly.
- Oversee regular stock checks, cycle counts and stock takes.
- Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies.
- Identify opportunities to improve stock accuracy, availability and warehouse utilisation.
- Ensure appropriate controls are in place for damaged, returned or quarantined stock.
Quality & Compliance
- Maintain high standards of accuracy and quality throughout the warehouse operation.
- Introduce and monitor quality control checks across goods in, picking, packing and goods out.
- Investigate errors, identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure the warehouse operates safely, efficiently and in line with company procedures and relevant legislation.
- Maintain a clean, organised and professional warehouse environment.
People Management
- Lead, coach and develop a team of warehouse operatives.
- Manage rotas, workload allocation, performance and attendance.
- Set clear expectations and KPIs for the warehouse team.
- Carry out regular one‑to‑ones and performance reviews.
- Build a positive, accountable and team‑focused working environment.
- Identify training requirements and ensure team members are appropriately trained.
Process Improvement
- Continuously review warehouse processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy and productivity.
- Monitor key operational KPIs and use data to drive improvements.
- Reduce picking, packing, stock and dispatch errors.
- Improve warehouse layout, workflows and storage systems where appropriate.
- Introduce standard operating procedures and consistent working practices.
- A LEAN / continuous improvement background would be highly advantageous, particularly experience of 5S, waste reduction, process mapping or root-cause analysis.
The ideal candidate will have the following skills, experience and attributes:
We are looking for someone who has proven experience managing a warehouse operation and leading a team. You will be comfortable being hands‑on when required, but equally capable of stepping back to analyse processes, identify improvements and put effective systems in place.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience in a Warehouse Manager, Warehouse Supervisor or similar senior warehouse role.
- Experience managing and developing a warehouse team.
- Strong understanding of goods in, stock control, picking, packing and goods out.
- Experience working in a fast‑paced order fulfilment environment.
- Strong organisational and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong focus on accuracy.
- Experience managing stock and investigating discrepancies.
- Good understanding of warehouse KPIs and performance management.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with Customer Service and other departments.
- A proactive, practical and improvement‑focused approach.
- Good IT and warehouse systems experience.
Desirable:
- LEAN / continuous improvement experience.
- 5S, process mapping, root-cause analysis or similar improvement methodologies.
- Experience implementing new warehouse processes or systems.
- Relevant warehouse, logistics or supply chain qualifications.
