Job summary

British Heart Foundation in Southampton is seeking a part-time Warehouse Assistant to join our busy furniture stores. You will sort, check and prepare donations for sale and help move deliveries behind the scenes.

This role is physical and requires lifting large items, with weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis in a fast-paced team dedicated to funding life-saving research. You’ll help keep the shop floor stocked and support volunteers while learning about reuse and sustainability.

Qualifications

• Retail experience isn’t essential.
• Confident working within a team and guiding volunteers.
• Able to work under pressure and take initiative.
• Attention to detail in all tasks.
• Comfortable with manual work and moving large items.

Look no further - join us as a Warehouse Assistant in Southampton The role is part time for 20 hours a week in one of our busy furniture stores. Our stores are fast-paced and trade 7 days a week. This role requires flexibility to work weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.

What does this role involve? As a Warehouse Assistant, you'll be at the heart of our retail operation by sorting, checking and making the most out of the variety of donations we receive behind the scenes. This is not just a standing behind the till or filling shelves type of job. Join a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same and everyone works as a team to fund life‑saving research. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

• Organising donated items and preparing them for sale/ Handling and moving the delivery of furniture and appliances that arrive in our stores
• Ensuring the shop floor is always well stocked
• Working in line with safety regulations and promoting health, safety and wellbeing in everything you do
• Identifying unsaleable donations for recycling
• Keeping the stockroom organised and tidy

Please note, this role can be physical demanding and moving a high volume of donation bags / involves lifting large pieces of furniture. You will be given lots of autonomy in your role and will strive to continually build your knowledge of BHF.

• Previous retail experience isn't essential. If you're an avid collector who likes to keep things neat and tidy, then we'd like to hear from you!
• You’ll be confident working within a team and able to guide the activity of volunteers
• You’ll work well under pressure and on your own initiative in a dynamic and fast‑paced environment
• Attention to detail in everything you do
• Comfortable with a high level of hands on manual work that involves moving large items/volumes of stock
