Job description

Job Overview

To provide comprehensive administrative, clerical, and non-clinical support to the professional staff involved in patient care. The Ward Clerk will work as a key member of the ward team, supporting a patient-focused and friendly environment. The role will be flexible to meet the individual needs of the ward.

Main Duties of the Job
  1. Provide efficient and professional administrative and clerical support to the Medical Assessment Unit, including:
  • Receiving patients and relatives courteously, providing clear information, and orientating them to the environment and facilities.
  • Answering telephone enquiries, relaying messages politely, and taking appropriate action.
  • Liaising with nurses, doctors, GPs, and team members to communicate necessary information accurately.
  • Maintaining an efficient filing system for health records.
  • Managing the admissions book, inpatient board, and patient details on the administration system to ensure timely and accurate information.

Essential Criteria
  • Good general education for administrative duties; formal qualifications not required.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and be organized and efficient.
  • Ability to work well in a team, prioritize workload, act on initiative, and understand role limitations.
Desirable Criteria
  • RSA II, Computer Driving Licence, NVQ Level 2 in Care.
  • Experience in NHS or similar healthcare setting, knowledge of TDS and email, and experience in a care environment.
Applicant Requirements
  • Basic keyboard skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including on the telephone.
  • Good customer care skills, able to put patients at ease and handle interactions professionally.
Additional Information

This role involves access to vulnerable individuals and is subject to DBS checks in accordance with legal requirements.
