Job summary

Sodexo, at Nuffield Health York Hospital, is seeking a casual Ward Catering Assistant to support patient and staff meals with warmth and professional service. You will assist with meal service, dietary needs, and maintain hygiene standards in hospital wards.

Ideal candidates are flexible, reliable and ready to work mornings or evenings, with a Food Safety Level 2 or willingness to obtain it. Uniform, meals on shift and on-site parking are provided.

Qualifications

• Experience in a similar role preferred or willing to learn.
• Positive, reliable, caring approach to provide excellent service to patients.
• Good communication and listening skills, team player.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and maintain high standards of hygiene.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a friendly, high-quality meal service to patients with dignity and care.
• Prepare, assemble and serve patient meals including special dietary requirements.
• Maintain food safety, hygiene and infection prevention per hospital policy.
• Complete temperature checks, quality records and documentation accurately.
• Keep ward kitchens, equipment and work areas clean and stocked.
• Support stock rotation, waste reduction and safe transport of food trolleys.
• Work as part of a team and assist with other catering duties as required.

What You’ll Do:

• Deliver a friendly, high-quality meal service to patients, ensuring dignity, care and excellent customer service.
• Prepare, assemble and serve patient meals accurately, including special dietary requirements.
• Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and infection prevention in line with hospital and company policies.
• Complete food temperature checks, quality records and other required documentation accurately.
• Keep ward kitchens, catering equipment and work areas clean, safe and well stocked.
• Support stock rotation, waste reduction and the safe transportation of food trolleys.
• Work as part of a team, following instructions and helping with other catering duties as required

What You Bring:

• Previous experience in a similar role or willingness to learn
• A positive, reliable and caring approach, with a genuine desire to provide excellent service to patients.
• Good communication and listening skills, with the ability to work well as part of a team.
• The ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and work efficiently.
• A commitment to maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene and cleanliness.
• Good timekeeping, reliability and a flexible approach to supporting the team.
• A willingness to learn and complete required training, including maintaining mandatory standards.
• A Food Safety Level 2 certificate (or equivalent), or a willingness to achieve this.
