Job summary

Hertfordshire County Council is seeking a Waking Night Support Worker (Female Only) for Isabel Court in Hoddesdon. The role involves night shifts from 9.45pm to 7.45am, supporting adults with learning and physical disabilities, and assisting with personal care, mobility, and health needs.

The post includes medication duties and shift leadership responsibilities. Permanent contract with progression from £25,583 to £28,141 and additional enhancements for night hours and weekend work.

Job Title: Waking Night Support Worker - Female Only


Starting Salary: £25,583 (£13.26 an hour) Progressing to £28,141 (£14.58 an hour) + time and a third for working between 10pm and 7am, 6% MUSHA Payment for weekend working per annum (pro rata for part time) - Pay award pending

About The Team

Isabel Court is a Supported Living Service and Short break service which provides flexible supported and respite accommodation for adults with learning disabilities. Providing support to people with a wide variety of associated needs including people with a physical disability. This comprises of support and assistance depending on individual needs around mealtimes, personal care, housework, cooking, attending appointments and supporting with leisure activities.


The people we support at Isabel Court live in shared accommodation and 2 self-contained flats with 24-hour staffing including waking night support. As well as 3 bedded short break accommodation.


About The Role

Shifts - 9.45pm – 7.45am – over 4 week rolling rota including weekends


Working in people at Isabel court:



  • To support people, in line with their support plans, including people with complex emotional, physical and health need to maximise and maintain their independence.

  • The support you will give will include intimate personal care, moving and handling including hoisting, turning and rolling, administering medication as needed and supporting with health needs such as epilepsy.

  • Undertake medication duties, including administration and recording.

  • Participate in the Performance Management and Development Scheme (PMDS); attend regular formal supervision and training

  • Lead and coordinate shifts

  • Assist with daily household tasks

  • Participate in improving the quality of service experienced by the people we support.


Our services require supporting individuals with personal care including bathroom support, mobility aids, and dietary needs (training provided). This includes the use of moving and handling equipment, so it's important that you're physically capable of performing these tasks safely and effectively.


This role involves shift work on nights, including weekends and bank holidays throughout the year.


About You

Essential


  • Experience of supporting people with learning and physical disabilities

  • Either have an NVQ/QCF level 2 qualification or equivalent or be willing to work towards an RQF level 2

  • The ability to reflect on your own experiences and practice to build professional relationships with the people we support, family carers and other agencies to understand the needs and rights of disabled adults

  • Confident in the use of a computer to organise and record information clearly and accurately, update support plans, attend online training sessions, send emails etc.

  • Always aware of risks and how they can be minimised ensuring the health and safety of colleagues and the people we support.

  • Experience leading and coordinating shifts on a regular basis
