Join Alcedo Care as a Waking Night Complex Care Assistant supporting an adult client in their own home in West Kirby.

This role may be particularly suitable for applicants living within easy travelling distance of West Kirby, including Hoylake, Meols, Moreton, Greasby, Irby, Caldy, Heswall and surrounding Wirral areas.

About the client and role

You will provide dedicated, person-centred waking-night support to an adult living with Motor Neurone Disease and associated complex health needs.

The client has capacity to make their own decisions and directs their care. They are non-speaking and communicate using an assistive communication device, including an iPad, as well as through vocal sounds and other communication cues.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing attentive support throughout the night
  • Supporting the use of non-invasive ventilation
  • Monitoring for and responding to choking and respiratory risks
  • Supporting the use of a cough-assist machine
  • Providing gastrostomy care, including prescribed feeds, flushes and medication
  • Administering medication as prescribed through the electronic medication system
  • Supporting safe mobility and transfers using a stand aid
  • Reducing and managing falls risks
  • Assisting with personal care and continence care
  • Supporting meals, nutrition and hydration
  • Ensuring the client’s communication device remains accessible
  • Recognising changes in the client’s condition and escalating concerns appropriately

You will receive full client-specific training and competency assessments by our inhouse nursing team before carrying out any specialist clinical procedures.

What you’ll need

To apply, you must:

  • Have at least three months’ hands-on care experience in a UK care setting or through regularly supporting a family member
  • Be comfortable providing personal and continence care
  • Be confident supporting a client who communicates non-verbally
  • Be calm, attentive and able to respond appropriately to respiratory, choking and falls risks
  • Be willing to complete specialist complex-care training
  • Be reliable and able to work waking-night shifts from 11:00pm until 7:00am
  • Be able to travel reliably to the client’s home in West Kirby

Previous experience supporting someone with Motor Neurone Disease, gastrostomy care, non-invasive ventilation or cough-assist therapy would be beneficial, but it is not essential where the applicant has the right care experience and is willing to complete training.
