Job summary

The University of Birmingham Worklink service seeks a student Unity Programmer to support a psychology research project. The role focuses on building a VR experiment in Unity using C#, for 15 hours per week over eight weeks.

You will develop the experimental scene, code events, manage interactions, and export data for analysis, all within guidance from the research team and using VR devices such as Meta Quest.

Qualifications

• Experience using Unity and C# from coursework, projects, or personal work.
• Experience developing for VR/XR, especially Meta Quest or using XR tools, is advantageous.
• Ability to work independently, communicate clearly, and deliver a robust software package from a research spec.

Responsibilities

• Build the experimental scene in Unity using existing assets where appropriate.
• Program the sequence of events during the VR experience.
• Implement participant movement or interaction as required.
• Record key events and participant responses for analysis.
• Export data in a format suitable for analysis.
• Deploy and test the experiment on Meta Quest and the bespoke headset with team support.
• Test and debug the experiment.
• Refine the program after pilot testing.
• Deliver the final Unity project and clear documentation for independent use.
