Spiral Freerun CIC is one of the UK’s most impactful parkour and youth movement organisations. Based in Bedford town centre, we deliver over 80 parkour and movement sessions per week for children and young people aged 4–18 — many of whom face barriers due to disability, neurodiversity, disadvantage or mental health challenges.

We’ve introduced over 10,000 people to parkour, raised over £200,000 in grant funding, and built a reputation as the most funded individual parkour organisation in the UK.

As a social enterprise, our mission is to build stronger communities and support youth development through inclusive, empowering movement experiences. We’re now looking for a passionate volunteer to help us sustain and grow that impact through grant funding.

Role Description

This is a part-time, flexible volunteer role that can be done fully remotely, with optional visits to our Bedford-based facility.

As our Volunteer Assistant Grant Writer, you’ll support our team in identifying, preparing and submitting funding applications that help Spiral Freerun expand its reach and sustainability. You’ll play a key role in helping us continue to deliver free and low-cost opportunities for young people — especially those who need it most.

What you'll do:

  • Research relevant grant opportunities from trusts, foundations and public bodies
  • Assist with writing proposals and impact narratives
  • Help gather supporting evidence (e.g. statistics, testimonials, photos)
  • Track deadlines, eligibility criteria and submission progress
  • Support our internal grant monitoring and reporting systems
  • Work alongside our Directors and experienced in-house bid writer

Qualifications

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Strong writing and research skills
  • Attention to detail and a love for learning
  • The ability to work independently with light guidance
  • A collaborative and supportive mindset
  • An interest in youth work, social impact, or grassroots sport

Bonus if you have:

  • Previous experience in fundraising, grant writing, or nonprofit admin
  • Knowledge of community development or the sport/education sectors

What you'll gain

  • Free gym access and class membership
  • Mentoring from experienced staff
  • Valuable experience in third-sector fundraising
  • A professional reference and volunteer certificate
  • The chance to contribute to real, measurable change in young lives
