Job summary

Sheffield City Council is recruiting for a Void Support Officer to support the Housing Voids Team across Sheffield. You will visit customers, inspect empty properties, and help prepare homes for new tenants.

Training will be provided and you will work 37 hours per week from Manor Lane Depot, travelling to properties city-wide. The role offers the opportunity to gain practical housing knowledge, develop inspection and customer service skills, and contribute directly to enabling families to move

Qualifications

• Previous experience visiting customers or working in customer service is useful, but not essential.
• We will provide thorough training to develop housing knowledge and inspection skills.
• This is a permanent role with a full-time 37-hour week.

The Housing Voids team manages Sheffield City Council’s empty properties from when a tenancy ends, through to the home being ready for a new tenant. We are a large, vibrant and supportive team, committed to making sure homes are ready to let and available for the people who need them.

This is a varied role where no two days are exactly the same. You will meet customers, visit different types of properties across the city, work closely with colleagues and see the direct impact of your work as empty properties are brought back into use.

You will:

• Visit customers’ homes before they leave to give advice, raise repair orders and discuss any potential charges.
• Visit empty properties across Sheffield to check their general condition, identify any issues that need follow-up, and help make sure homes are ready for the next customer.
• Complete checks and post repair inspections after work has been completed.
• Carry out customer viewings and tenancy sign-ups.
• Record information from visits and inspections accurately, including updates to our voids and maintenance systems.

As a Void Support Officer you will build practical housing knowledge, develop your inspection and customer service skills, and play a direct part in helping our customers into new homes. Previous experience of visiting customers or working in customer service would be useful, but it is not essential. We will provide thorough training, so this could be a great opportunity if you have strong people skills, enjoy practical work and are keen to learn about housing.

This is a permanent role, working 37 hours a week. We are based at Manor Lane Depot and work alongside the Void Repairs Team. The role involves travelling to properties across the city for a variety of visits, then returning to the office each day to update IT systems.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
