Job summary

Vodafone seeks a Field Engineer to install, commission and maintain network infrastructure across South London and surrounding areas. The role is field-based with 37.5 hours weekly, Monday to Friday plus on-call duties.

You will join the UK Networks team, ensuring reliable connectivity and customer service excellence across diverse sites. Requirements include telecoms/electronics background, valid UK driving licence, and ability to obtain Security Clearance (SC).

Qualifications

  • Qualified telecoms or electronics professional with relevant hands-on experience.
  • Experience installing, supporting and troubleshooting telecoms and networking tech.
  • Knowledge of Cisco, Juniper and ADVA equipment, DWDM, Ethernet, 3G/4G/5G, fibre & copper cabling.

Responsibilities

  • Install, commission and maintain network equipment to high quality and safety standards.
  • Work across mobile, transmission, microwave, fibre, copper, power systems and customer networking.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults quickly with minimal customer disruption.
  • Climb towers and work at height, maintaining safety certifications.
  • Collaborate with field teams to deliver successful outcomes.
  • Provide professional, customer-focused updates and communications.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and drive operational excellence.
  • Participate in 24/7 callout rota and on-call shifts when required.
  • Travel to sites and work flexibly to support business needs.
  • Maintain Vodafone Health, Safety and Environmental standards.

What you'll do

Join a team that keeps people, businesses and communities connected every day. As a Field Engineer, you'll play a hands-on role in installing, commissioning and maintaining Vodafone's fixed and mobile network infrastructure, helping to deliver reliable connectivity and business solutions for customers across the UK. You'll enjoy a varied role that combines technical problem-solving, customer interaction and working in diverse environments, from network sites and rooftops to customer locations.

  • Install, commission and maintain network equipment, products and services to the highest quality and safety standards.
  • Work across a range of technologies including mobile networks, transmission systems, microwave radio, fibre and copper infrastructure, power systems and customer networking equipment.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults efficiently, ensuring minimal disruption for customers and network services.
  • Climb towers and work at height on Vodafone infrastructure, maintaining the required safety certifications and health standards.
  • Collaborate with field delivery teams, network operations centres, project teams, vendors, suppliers and business customers to deliver successful outcomes.
  • Provide a professional, customer-focused experience through clear communication and timely updates.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, challenge existing ways of working and contribute to operational excellence.
  • Participate in a 24/7 callout rota and/or shift patterns when required, supporting critical network operations.
  • Travel to sites as needed and work flexibly to support business and customer requirements.
  • Maintain strict adherence to Vodafone's Health, Safety and Environmental standards, ensuring safe working practices at all times.
Who you are
  • A qualified telecoms or electronics professional, or someone with equivalent hands-on industry experience.
  • Experience installing, supporting and troubleshooting telecoms and networking technologies.
  • Knowledge of technologies such as Cisco, Juniper and ADVA equipment, DWDM, Ethernet, 3G/4G/5G networks, microwave radio, power systems, fibre and copper cabling.
  • Someone who enjoys working both independently and as part of a wider team.
  • Confidence working in a physically active role, including climbing, lifting, working outdoors and operating at height.
  • Ability to stay focused under pressure and manage competing priorities effectively.
  • A proactive problem-solver who is adaptable and eager to learn new technologies and skills.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills with a professional approach.
  • Good IT literacy and confidence using digital tools and systems.
  • A full UK/EU Category B driving licence.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Security Clearance (SC).
  • Ability to achieve and maintain Advanced Climber/Tower Rescue certification and meet regular health assessment requirements.
  • Desirable qualifications such as an HND, degree or relevant technical certifications (e.g. Cisco CCNA/CCNP).
  • Experience with wireless networking, LAN/WiFi environments or unified communications solutions would be advantageous.
