Job summary

North Yorkshire Council is recruiting a Rehabilitation Officer/Worker for the Visual Impairment service. You will work with adults and possibly younger people to build independence through person-centred rehabilitation plans, orientation and mobility training, and daily living skills.

Travel across the county is required; the role offers DBS enhanced, the Local Government Pension Scheme, and opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications

• Diploma HE Rehabilitation Studies (or predecessors) is essential.
• NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care / QCF Level 3 is advantageous.
• Experience with visual impairments or in rehabilitation health or social care settings is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assess needs and develop rehabilitation programmes promoting independence.
• Teach orientation and mobility skills for safe and confident travel.
• Support individuals to develop communication and daily living skills.
• Recommend and provide specialist equipment and adaptations.
• Work with carers to ensure they have advice and support.
• Undertake reviews and monitor progress against agreed outcomes.
• Promote awareness and understanding of sight loss among colleagues and partners.
• Contribute to safeguarding activity and promote wellbeing of vulnerable adults.
• Promote and run drop-in sessions in the community with visually impaired people and staff.
• Collaborate with health professionals, voluntary organisations and community services to maximise opportunities.
