Who you are

We’re looking for a brilliant visual storyteller to help shape how a growing UK adventure travel brand.

This is an incredible opportunity to spend seven months travelling across the UK and Ireland, creating, experimenting and telling stories from some extraordinary places. You’ll have genuine creative ownership, with the freedom to develop ideas, try new formats, spot stories as they happen and help define the visual direction of Active England.

We’re offering the role on an in-season, freelance basis, with up to 12 days of work per month from April to October 2027 and scope for it to become full-time in 2028.

The primary focus will be Active England, capturing the people, places and experiences that make our trips special. Alongside this, you’ll also create work for our trade partners through Adventure by AE . One week you might be filming a cycling trip through the Cotswolds. The next, hiking a coastal trail in Ireland, capturing a guide at work or finding the small, unscripted moments that say more about a trip than any carefully planned shot ever could.

It will be rewarding, but it won’t always be glamorous. There will be early mornings, late evenings, long days on the road and British weather doing what British weather does. You’ll need to enjoy being out there as much as you enjoy sitting down to edit it afterwards.

We want more than beautiful landscapes. We want character, movement, humour, atmosphere and the stories that happen around the edges of a trip.

You’ll create short-form organic social video, longer-form story-led content and outstanding photography across social, web, email, editorial and trade channels. When you’re not on location, you’ll be editing, developing new ideas, planning upcoming shoots and creating fresh video advertising for social media.

We’re not looking for someone who simply turns up with a camera and works through a shot list. We want someone curious enough to find the story, confident enough to follow it and talented enough to turn it into something people want to watch.

Required skills and abilities

• Proven experience creating engaging photography and video content for brands.
• Strong photography, videography and editing skills, with a portfolio or showreel that demonstrates excellent visual storytelling.
• A strong understanding of what makes content work across social platforms.
• You’ll have your finger on the pulse of social media trends, formats and creative styles.
• Confidence working independently and making creative decisions while on location.
• Ability to work quickly and effectively in changing environments and weather conditions.
• Strong organisation and file-management skills.
• Your own professional photography and video equipment, editing software and laptop.
• Willingness to travel extensively throughout the UK and Ireland during the season.

Relevant and Desired Experience

• Strong knowledge of UK and Ireland destinations.
• Experience creating content within travel, tourism, outdoor, lifestyle or adventure brands.
• Experience producing performance-focused paid social creative.
• Drone filming experience and relevant permissions would be a plus.
• An interest in walking, hiking or cycling would be a very big plus.
