Pride Veterinary Referrals seeks passionate Out of Hours Veterinary Surgeons to join their team on a 12-month FTC. The role involves emergency care duties, collaborating with a team to provide high-quality vet services, with opportunities for professional development and a generous benefits package including annual leave and CPD funding.
Pride Veterinary Referrals is excited to announce a new opening for Out of Hours (OOH) Veterinary Surgeons with a passion for Emergency & Critical Care to join their team on a 12-month FTC.
Working on a 3-week rota schedule, you will be one of the overnight vets caring for our referral patients. You will work directly with our team of night nurses, veterinary care assistants, and alongside our first opinion night vet. Your responsibilities include following treatment plans provided by the Specialist Case Clinician and contacting the On Call Clinician for advice or support as needed.
You will serve as the point of contact for referring vets seeking to refer cases out of hours and will admit any referral cases arriving OOH. Clear communication during handovers and updates to the day teams about patient status overnight are essential.
This unique role offers the opportunity to spend 3-day shifts per 3-week rota with the Specialist Diplomat led teams to develop your knowledge. We offer some flexibility regarding which specialty interests you and your preferred day shifts.
Pride Veterinary Referrals operates as the small animal referral hospital for the Scarsdale Veterinary Group, a multi-species practice with over 300 employees across 9 sites in the Midlands. Our state-of-the-art facilities include consultation rooms, hospital wards, theatres, advanced imaging suites (CT and MRI), ultrasound rooms, interventional radiology and cardiology capabilities, an endoscopy suite, hydrotherapy pool and treadmills, and dedicated chemotherapy rooms.
Located on the edge of Derby city centre with excellent transport links, and close to major airports and the Peak District, our location offers both professional and recreational opportunities. We also collaborate with the University of Nottingham, providing veterinary students with practical experience in our services.
You will collaborate with our well-established Vets at Night teams, providing out-of-hours support for our specialist-led referral teams in Neurology, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Exotics, and Oncology. The teams are supported by experienced nurses and veterinary care assistants working a 7-night on, 14-night off schedule. Alternative working patterns can be discussed for suitable candidates.
Previous experience in OOH or a rotating internship is advantageous but not essential. We value individuals who thrive in a fast-paced, challenging, yet supportive environment where patient care is paramount.
We invite you to visit us, see our hospital, and meet the team—perhaps this is the opportunity you've been seeking!
