Job description

Situated in the heart of Ickenham, a village in Greater London, is an established practice that is looking for a vet who thrives in being part of the community and is the “go to” vet for their beloved pets.

This role also offers a genuinely unique rota to Goddard Vet Group, with a 9am-5pm shift every day, giving you back your weekday evenings to wind down, engage in hobbies or in the summer make the most of London beer gardens!

About your new role!

This is a sole charge position that has a perfectly manageable caseload for a GP first opinion vet to step into. You will be able to comfortably balance your morning consultations, perform routine surgeries during the day, catch up on admin and then round up with afternoon consults.

You will be fully supported by an incredible support team including Dawn and Alison, who have been at the practice for over 20 years and are very proud of the reputation the practice has built.

In addition, you will be supported by a dedicated regional manager, and regional head vet to help you with any areas of clinical and operational support you may need.

The rota for this role is 9am-5pm 4 days per week with Wednesdays off. It includes a 1:3 branch Saturday and 1:8 hospital Sunday rotation, in addition to up to 2 bank holidays per year in Mandeville Hospital. There are NO on-call requirements.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Carry out consultations, thoroughly examining all pets presented and making management and treatment recommendations which are based on best practice and are evidence‑based and in accordance with GVG protocols.
  • Perform surgery on cases as appropriate and within boundaries of personal competence and limitation of overnight care.
  • Maintain, prescribe and dispense all medications in accordance with appropriate current medicines legislation and RCVS guidance.
  • Record accurate and thorough clinical notes and ensure that pets’ histories are accurate comprehensive and useful to colleagues.
  • Be prepared to refer cases in a timely manner, in the first instance to a GVG Hospital, when there is an inability to undertake a case for whatever reason.
  • Help to maintain a respectful and collaborative team environment.
  • Work alongside your RVN to ensure branch meetings are scheduled and the clinics SOP’s are being actioned.
  • Oversee the consulting and surgical/diagnostic diary in compliance with company policies.

Mandeville Hospital in Northolt is a short drive away, giving you peace of mind if you needed to refer any patients for more advanced surgeries, work ups or overnight hospitalisation.

There is state of the art diagnostic support at the hospital with a new CT scanner, a diploma holder in imaging providing our CT and ultrasound service, a strong medical team, and experienced surgeons routinely conducting advanced orthopaedic, soft tissue, and minimally invasive surgery on‑site.

Ickenham’s location is ideal with 2 main access roads including the M25 just 10 minutes away, yet it has the quaint community village feel. Ickenham also has an underground tube station on the metropolitan line, which takes you all over London within a few short stops, including Kings Cross and Liverpool Street.

It is not often a rota with consistent early finishes pops up, so I would grab this opportunity now!

Salary and benefits

The salary band for this sole charge role averaging 35.45 hours per week inclusive of weekend rotation is £53,175 to £79,762 per annum (£60,000 to £90,000 full‑time equivalent based on a 40 hour week) dependent on prior experience and allowing room for professional growth within the role.
