Job description

If you are a vet who doesn’t want to be in the same environment all week, but also wants a consistent rota, this split role between our Acton and Uxbridge branches could tick all those boxes.

About your new role!

Uxbridge is a suburban area of West London that has history dating back to medieval times. Although Goddard Uxbridge was not established quite that far back, it has been a firm fixture in the community for many years, and they are looking for an additional GP vet on Thursdays and Fridays to support their team, working alongside a senior vet, RVN team and trainee nurses.

The practice itself is a generous size flooded with natural light, it has 3 consult rooms, and a large kennel and prep area leading into theatre.

There is plenty of on-site parking available which is a rare commodity for London sites!

In terms of location the practice is within a 15 minute walk of Uxbridge underground station on the Metropolitan line, which takes you to some of London’s best hot spots such as Kings Cross, beautiful Farringdon which has a plethora of independent bars and restaurants, and through to Liverpool Street where most other transport lines can be picked up. The Uxbridge area is an ideal location if you like the best of both, with plenty of green space to the west, then easy access into London to the east.

Now onto Acton!

Acton is set in an old bank complete with original vault and is definitely a unique environment to work in, and they are looking for an additional vet on Mondays and Tuesdays.

You will be working alongside a senior vet on one of your days conducting consultations, performing routine surgeries and triaging any emergencies that may arise. You have a fantastic established nursing team including experienced RVNs for your go to support!

The practice could not have a more ideal location, being literally opposite the Acton underground station on the Elizabeth Tube Line, which takes you straight into central and east London in one direction, and through to Heathrow airport in the other for those much-needed getaways!

Your rota: Monday and Tuesday at Acton, Thursday and Friday (Friday being a shorter 8 hour day) at Uxbridge. The role includes a 1:3 branch Saturday and 1:8 Mandeville Hospital Sunday rotation, and up to 2 bank holidays per year.

There are NO on-call requirements for this position.

As a branch veterinary surgeon, some of your duties will include:
  • Carry out consultations, thoroughly examining all pets presented and making management and treatment recommendations which are based on best practice and are evidence-based and in accordance with GVG protocols.
  • Perform GP surgery on cases as appropriate and within boundaries of personal competence and limitation of overnight care.
  • Maintain, prescribe and dispense all medications in accordance with appropriate current medicines legislation and RCVS guidance.
  • Record accurate and thorough clinical notes and ensure that pets’ histories are accurate comprehensive and useful to colleagues.
  • Be prepared to refer cases in a timely manner, in the first instance to a GVG Hospital, when there is an inability to undertake a case for whatever reason.
  • Help to maintain a respectful and collaborative team environment

You will also be fully supported a regional manager and regional head vet for any additional clinical and operational support you may need.

Goddard Mandeville Veterinary Hospital in Northolt provides Uxbridge and Acton with its OOH care and support with any complex cases you may need to refer.

Now let’s nitty gritty, here is what we offer you:

Our associate vet salary band is £45,000 to £72,000 per annum (full-time equivalent based on 40 hours per week and would be pro rata’ d down to part-time hours) dependent on prior experience and allowing room for further growth and personal progression within the role.

  • 6.6 weeks annual leave including bank holidays
  • Generous relocation assistance (where applicable)
  • Up to £2,000 CPD budget every year plus up to 5 days’ paid CPD leave
