Job Description

Introduction

Our Client’s practice is a multi-branch RCVS-accredited group located across South Wales. With a commitment to delivering high-quality veterinary care and a strong emphasis on team wellbeing, they are seeking an experienced or aspiring Veterinary Surgeon with an interest in orthopaedics to join their exceptional team.

Working Hours / Rota

Full-time role based on a 4-day week, though part-time and flexible working patterns will be considered. The role includes participation in a 1:5 Saturday rota and support for the inpatient on-call rota on a 1:6 weekday basis. There are no on-call responsibilities on weekends or bank holidays. Workday starts at 8:45am, with the last appointment at 6:15pm. All consults are 15 minutes in length.

Role Description

This position is ideal for a confident orthopaedic surgeon or a capable GP Vet with a strong interest in advancing their surgical skills. Duties include leading orthopaedic services—TPLO/CCWO/TTA and fracture repair procedures—alongside routine soft tissue surgeries and general practice duties such as vaccinations and consults. The successful candidate will work across four branches, including a newly refurbished main hospital that cares for inpatients. For those early in their surgical journey, structured support and training from an RCVS Advanced Practitioner are available.

Team Size

The team is composed of a supportive, collaborative group of experienced vets, junior clinicians, skilled nurses, and admin staff. The culture prioritises work-life balance, professional growth, and team wellbeing with a shared commitment to high standards of patient care.

Practice Details

The practice holds RCVS accreditation across all four branches. Facilities include digital X-ray, ultrasound, and in-house blood machines. The main hospital in Abergavenny manages all hospitalised patients, with other branches providing both consultations and surgical care. Recent refurbishments and ongoing upgrades support a modern clinical environment. The practice is a pioneer participant in the BVA Good Workplace Accreditation scheme, underlining its commitment to colleague wellbeing.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with confidence in orthopaedic procedures such as TPLO, CCWO, TTA, and fracture fixation. Alternatively, vets with a foundational surgical skillset seeking mentorship and growth are encouraged to apply. A flexible, team-oriented attitude, enjoyment of both complex surgery and general practice, and a focus on patient care and personal development are essential.
