The Package

Job Description

Introduction

Our Client’s hospital in Cardiff, Wales is seeking a Veterinary Surgeon with a medical bias to join their progressive and dedicated team. The role is ideal for a vet with a strong interest in internal medicine and imaging, keen to work in a highly collaborative and well-equipped hospital environment.

Working Hours / Rota

The standard rota consists of a 4-day working week with one 9-hour weekend shift (Saturday OR Sunday) every 5 weeks, plus one bank holiday shift per year. Total hours average 38.1 per week. There are no on-call duties, thanks to a dedicated night service, offering an excellent work-life balance. Part-time hours will also be considered.

Role Description

This role is perfect for a confident and experienced Veterinary Surgeon who enjoys managing complex medical cases and has skills in imaging techniques such as ultrasound and endoscopy. You will be responsible for working up cases fully in-house with access to outstanding facilities and clinical support. A key aspect of the role is mentoring and supporting other vets, with the opportunity to teach, demonstrate, or guide clinical decision-making. Certificate study is fully supported, and the hospital is committed to ongoing learning and clinical development.

Team Size

The hospital operates with a collaborative and multi-disciplinary team that includes both first opinion and ECC clinicians. The team culture is supportive, enthusiastic, and development-focused, with an emphasis on shared learning and well-being.

Practice Details

The hospital is RCVS accredited and offers 24/7 inpatient and emergency care. Facilities include a CT scanner, advanced ultrasonography, endosurgery equipment, extensive in-house blood analysis tools (including TEG and blood gases), dedicated orthopaedic, soft tissue, and exotic theatres, ECC wards, dental suite, and in-house hydrotherapy and physiotherapy services. The practice promotes a positive and growth-oriented work culture, actively supporting personal and clinical advancement.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Veterinary Surgeon with a strong interest in internal medicine and imaging. Certificate holders or Advanced Practitioners are especially encouraged to apply. You should have excellent communication skills, enjoy sharing your knowledge with colleagues, and be enthusiastic about working cases up thoroughly in a supportive team environment.
