Job summary

CVS Vets is hiring a Veterinary Patient Care Assistant at our Bolton practice. You will support RVNs and Vets in delivering compassionate care to animal patients and assist with nursing, grooming, and daily tasks.

This permanent role is 37 hours weekly, with shifts Monday to Friday and Saturdays on a rota. Salary is paid at the National Minimum Wage, and we offer benefits and a supportive team dedicated to putting pets first.

Qualifications

• Must have animal care and handling experience.
• Strong customer service and communication skills expected.
• Ability to remain compassionate and professional in emotional situations.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients and support RVNs and Vets.
• Assist with animal restraint, walking, feeding and cleaning.
• Prepare emergency and operating facilities; run internal lab samples.

Location: 284 Bury Road, Bolton, BL2 6AY

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 37 hours per week

Shift Pattern: Monday - Friday on a varied shift pattern between 08.00 - 19.00, with a share in the Saturday 08.30 - 17.30 rota

Salary: Will be paid at the National Minimum Wage

About The Role

The Patient Care Assistant position is crucial in any veterinary practice. You'll support our skilled RVN's and Vets in providing exceptional care to our animal patients.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

• Providing nursing care to our patients
• Assisting Vets and Nurses with animal restraint
• Walking, feeding, and cleaning patients
• Preparing emergency and operating facilities
• Performing general cleaning and maintenance
• Running internal lab samples
• Answering emergency calls
• Supporting the reception team, including booking appointments and processing payments

Who We're Looking For

• Skilled in customer service and public interaction
• Resilience and the ability to handle emotional situations with kindness and professionalism
• Strong communication skills paired with genuine empathy
• Experienced in animal welfare, including feeding, cleaning, and handling – this is essential!
• Resilient and capable of handling emotional situations
• Positive and a team player
• Preferably have experience in a veterinary environment
