Job summary

Pets at Home Limited's Sutton Coldfield Vets for Pets is seeking an experienced Veterinary Care Assistant on a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave. You will support veterinary surgeons and nursing team with day-to-day care, hospitalised patients, and the smooth running of the practice.

You'll handle clinical and client-facing tasks, welcome clients and their pets, answer calls, book appointments, take payments, restock equipment, and help ensure a friendly, efficient service.

Qualifications

• Previous experience within a veterinary practice or animal care setting is desirable.
• You should be compassionate, dependable and able to remain calm and organised in a busy environment.
• You will be the friendly and welcoming face for the client and their pets when they arrive at the practice.
• You will bring enthusiasm and drive to your role, with a passion for service and pets.
• You can handle a busy day, including assisting with reception duties when required.

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Veterinary Care Assistant to join our Sutton Coldfield Vets for Pets practice on a 12 month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave. This is a varied and rewarding role, supporting our veterinary surgeons and nursing team with the day-to-day care of our patients and the smooth running of the practice. You will help provide a high standard of care to animals throughout their time with us, as well as helping to maintain a clean, safe and welcoming clinical environment. Your day-to-day duties will include caring for hospitalised patients, assisting the nursing team, cleaning and preparing clinical areas, safely handling animals, restocking and maintaining equipment, and providing practical support to the wider practice team. The role will also include supporting our reception team when required, including welcoming clients and their pets, answering telephone enquiries, booking appointments, taking payments, assisting with general reception administration and helping ensure clients receive a friendly and efficient service. This is a varied role working across both clinical and client-facing areas of the practice, so you'll need to be confident communicating with clients, comfortable working as part of a busy team and happy to turn your hand to whatever is needed to keep the practice running smoothly. We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys working with animals and takes pride in providing excellent care. You should be compassionate, dependable and able to remain calm and organised in a busy environment. This is a Full Time role working 40 hours per week (8am to 5pm or 10am to 7pm). No Weekends!

Previous experience within a veterinary practice or animal care setting is desirable.
