BMR Solutions Ltd is recruiting a highly skilled Veneer Specialist to join a specialist manufacturing business producing high-value, premium finished products. You will take responsibility for the complete veneering process from raw veneer selection to final quality inspection.

The role requires substantial experience in high-end veneering, with focus on grain and colour matching, precise cutting, matching, and the use of hot and cold presses to produce premium surfaces.

Qualifications

BMR Solutions are recruiting for a highly skilled Veneer Specialist to join a specialist manufacturing business producing high-value, premium finished products.

This is a genuine craft-based specialist position requiring substantial previous experience of high-end veneering.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the complete veneering process, from the initial selection and matching of raw veneer through cutting, joining and pressing to final quality inspection.

Attention to detail is absolutely critical. The products are manufactured to demanding aesthetic standards and require consistency in grain, colour, symmetry and finish across individual components and matched pairs.

The Role

You will work with a range of premium wood veneers, taking responsibility for selecting and preparing material and producing consistently high-quality veneered components.

Responsibilities will include:

• Selecting raw wood veneer and flitches
• Assessing grain, colour and overall material quality
• Selecting material to achieve consistency across production batches
• Matching veneer for colour, grain and symmetry
• Accurately cutting and dimensioning veneer leaves
• Working to tight tolerances to achieve clean, virtually invisible joints
• Book-matching, slip-matching and balanced matching
• Stitching and taping veneer joints
• Applying adhesives correctly and consistently
• Operating hot and cold veneer presses
• Controlling pressure and temperature during the pressing process
• Working with different adhesive systems
• Preventing and identifying bubbling, telegraphing and delamination
• Inspecting completed surfaces for grain defects, splits and glue seepage
• Maintaining consistency across matched components
• Maintaining veneering equipment and specialist tools
• Correctly storing veneers and temperature-sensitive materials

The Person

This role requires an experienced craftsperson with a strong background in high-end veneering.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have worked with high-value products where material selection, grain matching, symmetry and visual appearance are fundamental to the quality of the finished product.

Relevant backgrounds could include:

• Bespoke furniture manufacture
• High-end cabinet making
• Luxury joinery
• Luxury interior fit-out
• Architectural joinery
• Other high-value wood manufacturing environments

The particular end product is less important than the quality and complexity of the veneering work you have previously undertaken.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate significant professional experience in:

• Selecting raw wood veneers
• Cutting and preparing veneer
• Book-matching and/or slip-matching
• Grain and colour matching
• Working with different wood species
• Understanding grain characteristics and moisture content
• Working with hot and/or cold presses
• Adhesive selection and application
• Producing precision veneer joints
• Working with veneer saws, knives and specialist joining equipment
• Identifying and preventing common veneer defects
• Producing premium-quality veneered surfaces

Experience working with adhesive systems such as UF, PVA or other specialist veneer adhesives would be particularly relevant.

Previous experience selecting, cutting and pressing veneer within a professional environment is essential.

What We're Looking For

This position requires patience, craftsmanship and exceptional attention to detail.

The successful candidate will understand that two pieces of veneer being the same species does not necessarily mean they will produce the same finished appearance.

You should be able to assess subtle variations in grain, colour and natural characteristics and select and match materials accordingly.

Precision is equally important. Veneer must be accurately prepared, joined and pressed to achieve consistent surfaces without visible joints, bubbling, delamination, glue seepage or other imperfections.

We are therefore looking for somebody accustomed to working on premium, high-value products where aesthetic quality is prioritised over high-speed volume production.

You will be trusted to apply your own experience and judgement and should take genuine pride in producing exceptionally high-quality work.

£16.00 – £22.00 per hour depending on experience.

Monday to Friday, 08:00–16:30.
