Vehicle Mechanic Job Description

As a Vehicle Mechanic, you'll have an out-of-the-ordinary role. Using your skills and experience, you'll service, repair, maintain, and overhaul vehicles and electrical equipment, including diagnostic and inspection duties. You'll also perform equipment examinations to meet production requirements.

Day-to-day, you'll work to the required standards and specifications, adhering to customer requirements, current regulations, local instructions, process plans, and other technical publications. Additionally, you'll ensure that stores and equipment issued to your job are used correctly.

  • Diagnose, inspect, and assess vehicles and related mechanical or electrical equipment based on your skills and competency.
  • Ensure proper use of stores and equipment issued for the job; return unused or faulty materials to the section or department team leader promptly.
  • Create job cards and request materials through the relevant ERP (SAP) system once trained.
  • Complete vehicle and equipment documentation, test certificates, or reports according to current standards.

Please note that the successful candidate will need to pass a targeted medical questionnaire and/or examination as a condition of employment.

This role involves manual work, including lifting, bending, tool use, and standing for extended periods.

This is a full-time position, 37 hours per week, based at one of our three sites around Bovington and Lulworth. The role offers a good work/life balance with options to work 4 or 4.5 days a week, typically Monday to Thursday, 0700 - 1645.

Essential Experience
  • Previous experience in a similar role is required.
  • Dealership or local garage experience preferred.
  • Must be a team player, adaptable, and able to build rapport.
Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 3 Service and Repair.
  • Ideal candidates may include ex-REME Class 1 VM with current competencies, but this is not essential.
Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance. Many positions are subject to national security and trade restrictions, which may influence eligibility based on nationality, citizenship, or residency.
