Description
The VAT Department currently comprises of a Manager, a Senior and a Trainee, headed up by a Partner. The Department handles all aspects of VAT, including: VAT mitigation for clients; negotiating with HMRC on liability issues; agreeing partial exemption methods; advising on VAT property law; advising on EU and international transactions; and VAT return compliance work.
We are looking for a VAT Manager to join the above team.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this role are varied and would include the following:
- Providing advice on VAT issues such as, property transaction, charity liability, place of supply of services and e-commerce/taxation of digital services
- Drafting instructions to Tax Counsel around liability, structuring and dispute matters
- Managing of VAT cases going to ADR or tribunal
- Undertaking VAT reviews and due diligence assignments
- Dealing with VAT queries from clients and other staff members
- Technical writing and assistance with webinars and similar
- Assisting with the management and development of junior staff
- Other ad hoc duties in line with the role
The candidate’s primary role will be the provision of high-quality VAT advisory services with an element of compliance work plus staff management/development. It is anticipated that advisory would make up 75% of working time with an equal split between the other two areas.
The candidate will also work with the Partner on litigation matters and business development activity that will include an element of public speaking.
The Candidate
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years’ experience working in VAT and dealing with HMRC in an accountancy firm. They should demonstrate the following qualities:
- The ability to work within a team and individually
- Excellent IT skills (including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- The ability to liaise with people of all levels
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills
The successful candidate will ideally be CTA qualified.
