Job description

VAT Associate Director

Meraki Talent is partnering with one of the fastest-growing national firms in the UK, seeking to make a key strategic hire for their VAT team in Manchester.

Following acquisitions across the North, the firm has invested heavily in expanding their VAT services in Newcastle, Leeds, and Manchester. Manchester is now a primary focus, and they are looking to appoint a new Associate Director to help build out their VAT offering in the region.

You will have strong technical VAT expertise and the opportunity to shape and grow the Manchester VAT team. There is a clear progression plan and an ambitious growth strategy in place.

You will work closely with respected VAT professionals in North England and have a track record of successfully building and scaling VAT teams across the UK.

The Opportunity:
  • A strategic role to develop and expand the Manchester VAT offering.
  • Support from the wider Northern VAT team and national VAT leadership.
  • No immediate people management responsibilities; initially focus on winning work, growing the client base, and establishing the team.
  • Autonomy to shape the direction and growth of the Manchester VAT function.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
  • Strong VAT background gained in Practice (Big 4, Top 10, or strong mid-tier firms preferred).
  • Industry or HMRC backgrounds considered if you demonstrate client-facing skills and business development experience.
  • Confident in networking and representing the firm externally to grow the brand locally.
  • Ambitious and entrepreneurial, seeking a bigger role with growth potential.
  • Comfortable advising a broad range of clients; sector-agnostic and open to specialists and generalists.
What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Advising clients on VAT compliance and advisory matters.
  • Leading business development efforts using your network to generate opportunities.
  • Collaborating with senior stakeholders and Partners to expand the VAT client base.
  • Growing and managing your own local team as the practice develops.
  • Being part of a collaborative, supportive, and ambitious national VAT team.
What’s On Offer:
  • Competitive benefits including private medical, pension, life assurance, generous holiday, and flexible working.
  • The opportunity to build something with national backing.
  • Access to a strong technical team for support, allowing focus on growth and leadership.
