Job description

An opportunity has arisen to join our friendly, progressive non-obstetric team at Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, well-organised sonographer with initiative and the ability to work autonomously to join our busy unit.

The successful candidate will primarily support the vascular service at KGH but should also be capable of performing general ultrasounds. Candidates must be SVT Accredited and proficient in clinical examinations, playing a key role in managing patients with vascular disease.

You will perform and independently report on a range of vascular ultrasound examinations, including upper and lower limb arterial and venous scans, carotid and aorta (including EVAR scans), and arterio-venous fistulas.

It is essential that you are highly competent, committed to efficient service delivery, and dedicated to excellent patient care.

Applicants must hold a UK recognised Pg. Diploma or Pg. Certificate in Medical Ultrasound or equivalent, and be registered with HCPC or another recognised body.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be part of a team delivering high-quality diagnostic care, ensuring the right test is performed at the right time.

You should be highly competent, eager to contribute to service efficiency, and committed to patient care.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing high-quality patient care and participating in programs to uphold standards
  • Organising and leading ultrasound services with the management team, advising on evidence-based practice changes
  • Offering specialist advice on ultrasound services
  • Training and supervising staff within the ultrasound unit
  • Deputising for the Lead Sonographer when required
  • Adapting to new working methods to ensure resilience and flexibility of the ultrasound department
  • Staying informed about national diagnostic service delivery changes
  • Implementing changes aligned with national priorities
  • Maintaining clinical governance through audits, peer reviews, and QA programs

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • BSc Radiography or equivalent
  • HCPC registration or equivalent
  • Experience in ultrasound and independent reporting
  • Postgraduate qualification in MSK Ultrasound

Other skills include managing people and change, providing leadership, prioritising tasks, problem-solving, and effective communication.
