Job summary

The Barbican is seeking an experienced Mobile Lead Engineer to oversee a team of maintenance engineers across London. This role blends hands-on engineering with team leadership, client liaison and operational support.

You will coordinate daily activities, support engineers with technical issues and ensure services are delivered to a high standard in busy commercial properties.

Qualifications

• Experience leading mobile maintenance engineers in commercial properties.
• Hands-on supervisory responsibilities with client liaison.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, pumps, motors, electrical distribution, lighting, heating and ventilation.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate a team of mobile maintenance engineers across London.
• Plan daily workloads, engineer schedules and site attendance.
• Oversee planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance and minor remedial works; prepare quotes for remedial works.
• Ensure accurate maintenance records and updates are maintained through CAFM systems.
• Liaise with clients, contract managers and subcontractors to ensure high service standards.
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health and safety regulations, RAMS and permit-to-work procedures.
• Demonstrate leadership from the front while remaining hands-on.

Job description

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mobile Lead Engineer to oversee and support a team of maintenance engineers covering commercial properties across London. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong Mechanical or Electrical Engineer who has progressed into a supervisory position but still enjoys being hands-on. The successful candidate will take responsibility for coordinating daily engineering activities, supporting engineers with technical issues, managing workloads and ensuring maintenance services are delivered to a high standard. This position offers a varied workload, combining practical engineering duties with team leadership, client liaison and operational support.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, support and coordinate a team of mobile maintenance engineers across London.
• Plan daily workloads, engineer schedules and site attendance to ensure efficient service delivery.
• Carry out and oversee planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive maintenance and minor remedial works., Prepare quotations for remedial works, including labour, materials and specialist contractor requirements., Ensure accurate maintenance records, reports and updates are maintained through CAFM systems., Liaise with clients, contract managers and subcontractors to ensure high standards of service., Ensure all maintenance activities comply with health and safety regulations, RAMS and permit-to-work procedures., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
• Strong experience within commercial building services maintenance or Facilities Management.
• Previous experience supervising or leading a mobile or multi-site engineering team.
• Good all-round mechanical and electrical knowledge, including HVAC, pumps, motors, electrical distribution, lighting, heating and ventilation systems.
• Excellent fault-finding and technical problem-solving abilities.
• Good working knowledge of CAFM systems and Microsoft Office applications. You will be confident supporting a team, dealing with technical challenges and ensuring maintenance standards are maintained across multiple sites.
