Job summary

EMBL-EBI’s Digital Experience team seeks a thoughtful UX Designer for a fixed-term maternity cover. You will shape accessible, data-driven digital experiences and help users discover EMBL-EBI’s information and services.

Join a multidisciplinary team from research to delivery, conducting user research, creating flows and prototypes, and contributing to design systems. Experience in a scientific or data-rich setting is preferred, with strong Figma skills and WCAG knowledge.

Qualifications

• Experience in UX or product design in a scientific or data-intensive environment.
• Portfolio demonstrating user research, interaction design, prototyping and delivered outcomes.
• Experience planning, conducting and synthesising user research and usability testing.
• Strong skills in Figma or comparable design/prototyping tools.
• Practical knowledge of accessibility and WCAG standards.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct user interviews, usability tests, workshops and feedback sessions.
• Turn qualitative and quantitative evidence into clear insights and priorities.
• Create user flows, information architectures, wireframes, prototypes and accessible interface designs.
• Simplify complex workflows and data-rich experiences without losing essential detail.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams through discovery and delivery stages.
• Contribute to design systems, reusable patterns and UX documentation.
• Champion accessibility and evidence-informed decision-making.
• Use AI and other emerging tools thoughtfully to support exploration, prototyping and iteration.
