Job summary

EMBL-EBI invites a thoughtful UX Designer to join the Digital Experience team on a fixed-term maternity cover contract. You will help explore emerging technologies and design digital solutions that enhance how users discover, access and interact with EMBL-EBI’s information and services.

You will participate across the design lifecycle, from research to prototyping, delivery and continuous improvement, ensuring accessible, intuitive, and engaging experiences that serve researchers globally.

Qualifications

• Professional experience in UX or product design.
• Portfolio demonstrating user research, interaction design, prototyping and delivered outcomes.
• Experience planning, conducting and synthesising user research and usability testing.
• Strong skills in design and prototyping tools such as Figma.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct user interviews, usability tests, workshops and feedback sessions.
• Translate qualitative and quantitative evidence into insights and priorities.
• Create user flows, information architectures, wireframes, prototypes and accessible designs.
• Simplify complex workflows and data-rich experiences without losing essential detail.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams throughout discovery and delivery stages.
• Contribute to design systems, reusable patterns and clear UX documentation.
• Champion accessibility and inclusive design; support evidence-informed decisions.
• Use AI and emerging tools thoughtfully to support exploration and iteration.
