Job summary

EMBL-EBI in Hinxton, UK is seeking a UX Designer to join the Digital Experience (DX) team for a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover. You will lead the full design lifecycle from research through prototyping and delivery, shaping accessible, data-rich experiences.

The role requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, strong UX/product design background, and a portfolio demonstrating user research and prototyping. Hybrid working from Hinxton campus with relocation not provided.

Qualifications

• Professional experience in UX or product design.
• A portfolio demonstrating user research, interaction design and prototyping.
• Experience planning and conducting user research and usability testing.
• Strong skills in Figma or comparable tools.
• Knowledge of accessibility and WCAG standards.
• Clear communication and collaboration with technical and non-technical colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct user interviews, usability tests, workshops and feedback sessions.
• Turn qualitative and quantitative evidence into insights and priorities.
• Create user flows, information architectures, wireframes, prototypes and accessible designs.
• Simplify complex data-rich workflows without losing essential detail.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams throughout discovery and delivery stages.
• Contribute to design systems and UX documentation.
