Job summary

EMBL-EBI's Digital Experience team seeks a thoughtful UX Designer for a fixed-term maternity cover. You will help shape accessible, data-rich experiences and connect user needs with practical, scalable solutions across discovery to delivery.

You will conduct interviews, usability testing and workshops, translating insights into clear priorities while contributing to design systems. Hybrid working and relocation support are offered for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• Professional experience in UX or product design.
• Portfolio demonstrating user research, interaction design, prototyping and delivered outcomes.
• Experience planning, conducting and synthesising user research and usability testing.
• Strong skills in Figma or comparable design and prototyping tools.
• Practical knowledge of accessibility and WCAG standards.
• Ability to communicate design decisions clearly with technical and non-technical colleagues.
• Collaborative, organised and adaptable approach; comfortable learning new concepts.

Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct user interviews, usability tests, workshops and feedback sessions.
• Turn qualitative and quantitative evidence into clear insights and priorities.
• Create user flows, information architectures, wireframes, prototypes and accessible interface designs.
• Simplify complex workflows and data-rich experiences without losing essential detail.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams throughout discovery and delivery stages.
• Contribute to design systems, reusable patterns and clear UX documentation.
• Champion accessibility, inclusive design and evidence-informed decision-making.
• Use AI and emerging tools thoughtfully within the design process to support exploration and iteration.
