Job summary

AECOM’s Buried Utilities team in the UK is expanding, with a focus on PAS128-compliant underground utility surveys, GPR data capture and interpretation, and related field operations. The role involves leading surveys, mentoring junior staff, and coordinating with CAD and reporting tasks across UK sites.

You will work from our Nottingham area with hybrid work options and contribute to projects that support major infrastructure developments.

Qualifications

  • Experience in undertaking Buried Utility surveys to PAS128 standards in various environments.
  • Knowledge of Utility Surveying equipment incl. Positioning tools (TPS/GNSS).
  • Ability to lead buried utility surveys projects and mentor juniors.
  • Extensive knowledge of AutoCAD products.
  • CSCS card holder preferred or required.

Job Description

About Our Team:

Our Buried Utilities team is growing we operate across all sectors of the engineering industry, primarily in the UK but have had teams on site in all continents globally. We work under the umbrella of RAM (Rail Asset Management) which as well as specialist rail teams, includes other cross discipline teams like GI and Geospatial Engineering, based primarily out of our Nottingham office where we have equipment, fleet and laboratory facilities to support our field operations.

Our projects typically form small (but we like to think crucial) parts of the many major infrastructure projects which AECOM work on, primarily providing in-house surveys and investigations, specialist advice with an emphasis on collaboration to provide our clients with solutions which best suit their needs.

Here’s what you’ll do:

The primary role will be to undertake the following to in compliance with AECOM guidance.

  • PAS128 Compliant underground Utility Surveys
  • GPR Data capture and interpretation, both on and off site
  • Plant Avoidance / Borehole Clearance
  • Sewer Line and Level Surveys
  • Supervision of any subcontracted work

The expectation is that you would perform site operations across the UK as part of a broader team. This would be balanced with completion of operational paperwork, data interpretation, CAD and production of written reports.

You would be expected to attain the position of site lead for these surveys, providing safety briefings and completing safety and operational paperwork to support your colleagues. In conjunction with promoting the internal team to the wider AECOM group and assisting in the development of existing staff as well as the department.

  • Experience in undertaking Buried Utility surveys to PAS128 standards in a range of different environments.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of Utility Surveying equipment inclusive of Positioning tools (TPS/GNSS)
  • Ability to lead buried utility surveys projects.
  • Be able to mentor and train more junior members of the team
  • Extensive knowledge of AutoCAD products
  • NVQ in Utility detection (QCF Lv3/5)
  • Driving License
  • Skilled Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.
