Childrens Continence Service

We are seeking a motivated individual passionate about children's continence promotion to join our friendly team for a fixed-term position.

Job Summary

Specialist Nurse - Children's Continence Service

This role offers an opportunity to develop skills in care planning for children with bladder and/or bowel dysfunction. It involves caseload management with support from a wider team that also cares for adults with similar conditions.

The successful candidate will work in clinic and office settings, meeting with families face-to-face and handling virtual follow-ups and caseload management.

Good communication skills are essential for liaising with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver holistic continence care. Prior experience in continence care is desirable but training can be provided.

This is a fixed-term, part-time role (15 hours/week) for 1 year, with usual hours from 8:30 to 16:30, two days per week, Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays. The primary location is Hollyfield House, with travel to other sites as needed.

Main Duties
  • Provide high-quality community care for children aged 4-19 with bladder and/or bowel issues.
  • Manage a nurse-led children's continence service, supporting children and families directly or indirectly.
  • Improve health outcomes and empower families in continence management.
  • Conduct holistic assessments and develop individualized care plans.
  • Collaborate with the Urology and Colorectal Service Lead to shape and manage service delivery.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential: RN Registered Nurse (Child Branch), evidence of ongoing professional development, continence care training. Experience in managing caseloads, working with children and families, and within multidisciplinary teams. Mentoring and teaching experience.

Desirable: SCPHN registration, community nursing, health promotion, pharmacology knowledge.

Skills and Personal Qualities
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and adaptability.
  • Reflective practitioner with teaching and IT skills.
  • Knowledge of children's health, safeguarding, and NHS policies.
  • Full DBS disclosure.
  • Car driver preferred.
