Job summary

Milk Education, in partnership with a welcoming Gateshead primary school, is hiring an Unqualified/Qualified Teaching Assistant to support pupils and help them reach their potential. The role offers 08:30 - 15:30, Monday to Friday, with options for part-time or full-time work and a September start.

Pay is £107.71 per day, and candidates must be local to Gateshead. The successful applicant will assist in delivering lessons, support pupils with learning needs, promote positive behaviour and help

Qualifications

  • Experience working with primary-aged children is preferred.
  • Patient, calm and nurturing approach is essential.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills are required.
  • Experience with SEND/additional needs is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the class teacher in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons.
  • Work with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups to reinforce learning.
  • Adapt resources and activities to meet individual learning needs.
  • Assist in preparing classroom materials and maintaining an organised learning environment.
  • Encourage pupil confidence, independence and motivation.
  • Support pupils with additional needs to access the curriculum.
  • Promote positive behaviour and relationships within the classroom.
  • Contribute to developing communication, teamwork and life skills.

Milk Education is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Gateshead to appoint a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team.

Unqualified/Qualified Teaching Assistant - Key Responsibilities
Classroom Support
  • Support the class teacher in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons
  • Work with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups to reinforce learning
  • Adapt resources and activities to meet individual learning needs
  • Assist in preparing classroom materials and maintaining an organised learning environment
Supporting Pupil Progress
  • Encourage pupils' confidence, independence, and motivation
  • Support children with additional needs to access the curriculum
  • Help pupils stay focused and engaged during lessons
  • Provide constructive feedback to teaching staff on pupil progress
Promoting Positive Behaviour & Wellbeing
  • Model positive behaviour and attitudes to learning
  • Support pupils in developing social skills and emotional regulation
  • Use consistent behaviour management strategies in line with school policy
  • Build strong, positive relationships with pupils based on trust and respect
Supporting Development & Life Skills
  • Encourage communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
  • Support pupils during transitions throughout the school day
  • Promote inclusion and a sense of belonging within the classroom
  • Contribute to a positive school culture where every child feels valued
Unqualified/Qualified Teaching Assistant - Essential Criteria
  • Experience working with primary-aged children (school-based experience preferable)
  • A patient, calm, and nurturing approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting children's learning and development
  • A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (preferred but not essential)
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH, or additional needs (preferred)
  • Must live locally to Gateshead—no relocation
