Job summary

TrueNorth® is seeking a highly technical UNIX Engineer to join our Infrastructure Engineering team in Glasgow (hybrid). You will support a large-scale enterprise environment within financial services, focusing on automation, patching, OS upgrades, and reliability.

You will build orchestration with Python, Ansible, and Apache Airflow; implement monitoring with Prometheus, Grafana, Loki; and collaborate with engineering to improve resilience and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Proficient in UNIX/Linux environments and automation.
• Strong scripting and automation skills with Python.
• Experience with monitoring and observability tooling is a plus.
• Financial services experience is beneficial but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance automation for large-scale Linux patching, OS upgrades, and infrastructure maintenance.
• Build orchestration components using Python, Ansible, and Apache Airflow.
• Create robust pre-checks, post-change validations, and automation workflows to improve reliability and deployment speed.
• Integrate monitoring and observability using Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and related tooling.
• Support automation across Linux platforms, with exposure to load balancers and virtualisation technologies.
• Work closely with engineering teams to improve infrastructure resilience and operational efficiency.
• Proficiency in Python and Ansible.
• Experience with automation and orchestration tools (Apache Airflow desirable).
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, protocols, filesystems, and low-level UNIX concepts.
• Comfortable working at the command line and troubleshooting complex infrastructure.
• Experience with monitoring/observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or Loki is advantageous.
• Financial services experience is beneficial but not essential.

Additional Information:

• Glasgow is the preferred location, with some travel to the London client site during onboarding (travel covered where applicable). Newcastle-based candidates will primarily attend the Newcastle office when required.
