Job summary

Sodexo Group is seeking a skilled Plumber to join the Technical Services team at Northumbria University, Gateshead. The role covers planned, reactive, and compliance maintenance across university accommodation and academic buildings, with on-call duties and site coverage across Newcastle and Gateshead.

You will carry out maintenance on plumbing and mechanical systems, maintain water systems, and support water hygiene programs.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 Plumbing & Heating or City & Guilds Level 3 equivalent.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Experience in planned and reactive maintenance.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Experience with hot and cold-water systems and sanitaryware.
• Excellent communication and customer service.
• IT literacy and CAFM/CMMS experience.
• IPAF and PASMA certifications.
• First Aid at Work.
• Experience in universities or large facilities preferred.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventive maintenance on plumbing and mechanical systems.
• Diagnose and repair plumbing faults quickly and effectively.
• Maintain hot and cold-water systems and sanitaryware.
• Respond to leaks, blockages, water outages and breakdowns.
• Support water hygiene and Legionella programmes.
• Update activities in CAFM systems like Maximo.
• Work in occupied student residences and academic facilities.
• Participate in on-call rota for 24/7 operation.
• Support sustainability and water-efficiency initiatives.
