Job summary

Universal Precision Grinder in Hinckley, Leicestershire, is seeking an experienced universal grinder to join a busy precision engineering environment. You will machine components to customer specifications, ensuring quality and accuracy, with a 37-hour week and rotating shifts.

The ideal candidate will have around 5 years' precision grinding experience, familiarity with Jones & Shipman/Heald machines, and the ability to read engineering drawings. Apprenticeship-trained backgrounds preferred.

Qualifications

• Around 5 years' experience in precision grinding.
• Experience setting and operating grinding machinery.
• Experience with Jones & Shipman and/or Heald grinding machines.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
• Experience working to tight tolerances and quality standards.
• Good knowledge of inspection and measuring equipment.
• Self-motivated with ability to work independently.
• Understanding of TPM, SOPs and 5S.
• An apprenticeship-trained background preferred.

Responsibilities

• Set and operate universal, ring and surface grinding machines.
• Read and interpret customer specifications and drawings.
• Inspect own work using appropriate inspection equipment.
• Maintain 5S standards within the working area.
• Complete basic machine maintenance and TPM activities.
• Follow setting sheets and SOPs.
• Safely handle components, jigs and fixtures.

Universal Precision Grinder

Location: Hinckley, Leicestershire, LE10 3DE

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £17.27 per hour + £581.54 monthly shift allowance

Hours: 37 hours per week

Shift Pattern: Mon - Thu (Rotating Shifts)

Week 1: 6:00am - 3:45pm

Week 2: 3:45pm - 1:30am

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Universal Grinder to join a busy precision engineering environment in Hinckley. You will be responsible for machining components to customer specifications and production requirements, ensuring all work is completed to the required quality and accuracy standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Set and operate universal, ring and surface grinding machines.
• Work with Jones & Shipman universal and surface grinding machines.
• Operate Heald internal grinding machines and ring grinding equipment.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and customer specifications.
• Set machines and complete grinding operations accurately.
• Inspect your own work using appropriate inspection and measuring equipment.
• Work independently and use initiative to resolve day-to-day machining requirements.
• Complete basic machine maintenance and TPM activities.
• Follow setting sheets and SOPs.
• Maintain 5S standards within the working area.
• Safely handle components, jigs and fixtures.

The ideal candidate will have

• Previous experience setting and operating grinding machinery.
• Experience with Jones & Shipman and/or Heald grinding machines.
• The ability to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications.
• Experience working to tight customer tolerances and quality standards.

• A self-motivated approach with the ability to work independently.
• An understanding of TPM, SOPs and 5S.
• An apprenticeship-trained background would be preferred, although equivalent experience will be considered
