About the role

Ecclesiastical Insurance, proudly part of Benefact Group, is looking for an Underwriter to join our Manchester office.

The role holder will deliver exceptional customer service as part of the underwriting team, supporting Ecclesiastical’s “right first time” approach to customer service.

Key responsibilities

1. Develop, negotiate, and profitably underwrite existing business within your authority and in line with Ecclesiastical strategy.
2. Plan, prioritize, and manage your work to meet objectives and SLAs, delivering exceptional customer service.
3. Use appropriate communication methods (telephone, face-to-face) to support the “right first time” approach and maintain successful relationships.
4. Act on audit results and improvement plans within deadlines to enhance performance.
5. Understand and operate within the regulatory framework, escalating risks as needed.
6. Identify and act upon complaints according to company policy.
7. Expand personal technical and niche knowledge through networking, industry press, training, and qualifications such as CII or CPD.

Knowledge, skills, and experience

• Experience in a commercial underwriting role.
• Minimum of 5 GCSEs including Maths and English at grade C or above, or equivalent.
• Qualified Cert CII or willing to work towards it within an agreed timescale.
• Knowledge of the market, industry, and company.
• Proven ability to deliver exceptional customer service.
