Job summary

DHL is seeking a Transport Planner in Rugby to develop and manage efficient transport plans, optimise vehicle and driver usage, and maintain service levels and KPI targets. The role focuses on delivering cost-effective logistics solutions in a fast-paced environment.

You will liaise with operations, suppliers and customers, analyse performance data, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, while ensuring compliance with driver regulations and IT systems.

Qualifications

• Experience in transport planning is essential.
• Analytical problem-solver capable of quick, data-driven decisions under pressure.
• Confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills and stakeholder management.
• Strong IT skills including Microsoft Excel and transport management systems.

Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate transport operations using TMS, including load building, route creation, and allocating vehicles, trailers and drivers.
• Deliver transport plans within deadlines while achieving utilisation, load fill and service KPIs.
• Monitor network performance, analyse operational data, and support continuous improvement to enhance efficiency.
• Manage subcontractor and agency relationships, including securing additional resources to meet demand.
• Build strong relationships with transport sites, suppliers, customers and operations teams to ensure service excellence.

You'll play a critical role in driving efficiency, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and maintaining strong relationships across operations, suppliers and customers.

A TYPICAL DAY MAY INVOLVE?

• Plan and coordinate transport operations using TMS, including load building, route creation, and allocation of vehicles, trailers and drivers.
• Deliver transport plans within agreed deadlines while achieving utilisation, load fill and service KPIs.
• Monitor network performance, analyseoperational data, and support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and profitability.
• Manage subcontractor and agency relationships, including securing additional resource where required to meet demand.
• Build strong relationships with transport sites, suppliers, customers and operational teams to ensure service excellence and effective communication.

• Someone with transport planning experience (essential) and a strong understanding of transport operations.
• An analytical problem-solver who can make effective decisions in a fast-paced environment and work well under pressure.
• A confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with multiple stakeholders.
• An organised and disciplined individual with strong IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and transport management systems.
• Someone with a good understanding of driver regulations and a flexible approach to support operational requirements when needed.
