Job description

Tony Gee and Partners is looking for a Business Development Director for its UK region. This is an opportunity for a talented and dynamic individual with proven capability and experience to join a growing business.

This is a highly influential role, and, with a portfolio of established contacts and a suitable industry profile, the successful candidate will work alongside other senior colleagues to lead the UK BD and Tenders and Proposals team to deliver our market strategies in the UK and our work winning success.

The Role

This is a permanent, full-time position based in one of our UK offices. The role will require a high degree of mobility within the UK to fulfil the role and to effectively manage interfaces both externally and internally. The role is UK wide and has a number of key elements and associated activities to it which are outlined below.

Provide appropriate support to the UK Region as Business Development Director

The UK Business Development Director is an outward looking client facing role and provides a senior level of interface and engagement with existing and new clients.

The successful candidate will lead the team of Business Development Managers to maintain opportunity pipeline, deliver regional strategies and business plans and input into future market development. The role will also work closely with and report UK business development activity to the Group Business Development Director.

Key activities include:

  • Leveraging existing strong relationships with UK clients and provide senior level client interface when required.
  • Leading and supporting business development team colleagues
  • Supporting the UK to achieve the regional targets and objectives.
  • Working with Sector leadership to ensure the UK develops and maintains a consistent pipeline in accordance with the UK business plan.
  • Ensuring the promotion of values, identity and culture to clients.
  • Working with Heads of Sector colleagues to ensure alignment of business development and sector plans and direction.
  • Contributing to the development of UK strategy
  • Identifying new UK markets
  • Identifying and developing new client opportunities
  • Ensuring client interfaces are managed across the UK operation
  • Working with Business Development Managers to identify opportunity and compile consolidated pipeline information
  • Liaising with Tony Gee Heads of Sector and Office Leads to understand how specific UK opportunities align with the company and sector strategies
  • Regular reporting to Group BD Director on up-and-coming on regional pipeline, important future opportunities and major pursuits
  • Support key account management activities, including client feedback and lessons learned
  • Retains suitable technical credentials to be able to represent Tony Gee capabilities across diverse forums.
  • Attending industry events to represent the company
  • Representing company interests on recognised industry (volunteer) bodies

Provide leadership and line management of UK regional Business Development team and Tenders and Proposals team

This role will lead and develop the UK Business Development Managers and the UK Tenders and Proposals team. This will include representing these functions across the business and ensuring that suitable connection and communication is delivered. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the growth and development of these teams to meet the needs of the UK operation.

The role will involve active engagement with the business across the UK to ensure alignment and development of business support capability across our portfolio and identification of objectives suited to our existing technical skills and/or align with development objectives within our Sector Strategies.

  • Retain oversight and has overall line management responsibility for UK regional business development workstreams being business development & client relations, tenders and proposals.
  • Lead and manage BD and Tenders and Proposals team staff to support UK operations.
  • Line management of Business Development Managers and Principal Proposals Manager
  • Support BD Managers and Tenders and Proposals team in their roles
  • Supports UK tendering activity, including quality reviews
  • Identify requirements for establishment of bidding team (and suitable lead) at early bid stages (i.e. multi-disciplinary)
  • Work with Tenders and Proposals team to run and manage any bid in accordance with company procedures
  • Report BD and bidding activity to the UKLT and Group BD Director.
  • Report UK pipeline and work winning activity to UKLT and Group BD Director
  • Support development of internal CRM systems for pipeline and client management purposes
