Job summary

Prismatic Ltd in Alton, Hampshire, is seeking a Power Systems Engineer to develop DC power generation, storage and management systems for UAV platforms, and to define power architectures for electric and hybrid propulsion, enabling autonomous aviation in high‑value missions.

The role requires a degree in Electrical, Aerospace, or Mechatronic Engineering and at least 5 years’ DC power experience, familiarity with aerospace standards, and the ability to lead multi‑disciplinary teams and

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical, Aerospace, or Mechatronic Engineering (or equivalent).
• At least 5 years proven industry experience with DC power systems.
• Experience in the design and analysis of aircraft or UAV electrical power systems.
• Understanding of DC Power System architecture, ideally within HALE or Automotive.
• Knowledge of energy storage systems such as Li-ion, solid-state batteries, or hydrogen fuel cells.
• Understand battery charge/discharge characteristics.
• Familiarity with aerospace standards and practices (e.g., Def Stan 00-970, STANAGs, DO-160, ARP4754A).
• Knowledge of UAV-specific challenges including SWaP, autonomous operation, and distributed architectures.
• Understanding of safety and certification principles of DC power systems.
• Design for manufacture experience essential.

Responsibilities

• Design and development of DC Power Generation, storage, and management systems.
• Generation of integrated requirements and test strategies across systems including software.
• Test and evaluation of power systems from unit to full system level.
• Test report generation and analysis of test data.
• Deployment on Flight Trials to lead battery/power integration and testing.
• Problem solving and fault finding of DC electrical systems.
• Generation of assembly documentation to assist manufacturing.
• Work with third party companies to manufacture or certify products.
• Manage workload independently and with technicians and suppliers to meet timescales.
