Salary: £28,000–£32,000 per annum (based on a 40-hour week), depending on experience

Are you an experienced Registered Veterinary Nurse looking for a flexible twilight role within a dynamic and highly skilled referral hospital? We’re launching a new twilight position designed to support key areas across our multidisciplinary hospital in the busy late afternoons and evenings. This role offers variety, flexibility, and hands-on experience across a range of departments – ideal for nurses who want to build their referral knowledge without committing to overnight shifts.

Why join us?

  • Flexible twilight hours tailored around your availability (e.g. 12:00–8:00 PM, 4:00 PM–12:00 AM, 11:00 AM–7:00 PM)
  • Work across wards, surgery, medicine, oncology, emergency, and imaging – no two shifts will be the same
  • Structured two-month induction to ensure full exposure to all departments and day/night teams
  • Join a friendly, experienced team with access to one of the most comprehensive facilities in the United Kingdom
  • Be part of a hospital where you’re never alone – supportive, multidisciplinary teamwork is at our core
  • Bring your pet to work – overnight dog shed available (subject to availability)
  • One in four weekend rota in wards

The team

Dick White Referrals is a large multidisciplinary referral practice with over 60 nurses supporting patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This brand-new Twilight Registered Veterinary Nurse role will work across multiple departments depending on where support is needed most – offering significant opportunity for learning, exposure, and clinical development. You’ll work under a named line manager but rotate within small, supportive teams and interact with day and night teams alike. You’ll never work in isolation – but confidence, initiative, and adaptability are key for this role.

Our workplace culture is inclusive and team-oriented, with strong cross-department collaboration and wellbeing initiatives. Champion roles in infection control, blood donation, social media and more provide further avenues to contribute and progress.

What We’re Looking For

  • Registered Veterinary Nurse with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons
  • Minimum of one year post-registration experience (essential)
  • Previous general practice or emergency and critical care experience is desirable
  • Confidence working independently and across multiple clinical areas
  • A strong communicator who thrives in a dynamic, rotating team environment

What We Offer

  • Five weeks of holiday plus bank holidays and birthday leave
  • Free on-site parking
  • Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Defence Society fees paid
  • £500 Continuing Professional Development allowance with encouragement to pursue further training or certificates
  • Access to Champion roles (e.g. infection control, internal newsletter, blood donor programme, people’s champion)
  • Career progression pathways into Lead Nurse and Team Leader positions
  • Life assurance and employer pension contribution
  • Electric car salary sacrifice scheme
  • Enhanced equal family leave
  • Employee Assistance Programme and access to trained Mental Health First Aiders
  • Pet-friendly culture – dog shed access available for pets during twilight or overnight hours

About The Role

This is a unique twilight position, with working hours falling between late morning and midnight. Shift times will be finalised based on applicant availability but must consistently support end-of-day care across the hospital. You will be trained and rotated through all major departments including:

  • Surgical, medical, and oncology wards
  • Admitting and discharging patients
  • Emergency and critical care (as training progresses)
  • Imaging and anaesthesia (with support and upskilling where required)

This is an ideal role for a nurse with a general practice background, some emergency care exposure, and a desire to step into a fast-paced referral setting while retaining a healthy work-life balance.
