Job summary

Specialist SEND Group in Stockport is seeking a patient, nurturing SEMH Tutor to provide 1:1 Maths and English support for a young learner.

Deliver sessions tailored to anxiety and SEMH needs, build a trusted relationship, and create a calm, supportive learning environment. You will adapt lessons to the learner's emotional wellbeing and celebrate small steps along the way.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting young people with SEMH, anxiety or barriers to education.
• Qualified teacher or experienced tutor or education professional.
• Ability to deliver engaging Maths and English at appropriate level.
• Understanding that behaviour is communication and each learner needs a different approach.
• Patient, emotionally aware and able to build genuine connections.
• Role with impact beyond the classroom.

Not every young person finds a classroom an easy place to learn.

For some, anxiety can make education feel overwhelming — and before academic progress can happen, they first need someone who understands them, builds their trust and makes learning feel manageable again.

Specialist SEND Group is looking for a patient, nurturing and experienced SEMH Tutor to provide 1:1 support to a young person in Stockport, helping them continue their education through a personalised approach to Maths and English.

This is about much more than delivering lessons. It’s about understanding that some days progress might look like completing a task, having the confidence to ask a question, or simply feeling comfortable enough to engage.

What you’ll be doing:
