Job description

Trust Dental Core Trainee (DCT2/3) equivalent role in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, managing patients seen in outpatient, inpatient, and emergency settings with on-call commitments. This is all within the main hospital site.

Main duties of the job

Rolling rota providing broad experiences and training

Outpatient new referral and review clinics supported by senior staff

Outpatient local anaesthetic clinics (including minor oral surgery)

Admissions and clerking patients for operating lists and emergency cases

Inpatient and day case general anaesthetic theatre lists with senior staff

On call duties include dealing with inpatient care of oral & maxillofacial patients and emergency referrals with second on call support

Providing first tier leadership for junior team

Opportunities to develop and consolidate higher complexity dentoalveolar and soft tissue surgical skills

Job responsibilities

The post holder will have temporary/full GDC registration with a minimum of one year experience in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, hold the MFDS or equivalent, and have at least two years post qualification experience.

The post holder will be professionally accountable to the Medical Director and managerially accountable to the Service Line Director Jules Scott.

Monthly all morning department teaching sessions/clinical governance sessions

Regular tutorials/journal club meetings, DCT active participation is encouraged

Participation in audit and quality improvement projects is supported

Teaching ward rounds

Support for MFDS/MJDF and other post-graduate examinations

Person Specification

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & SPECIAL TRAINING

Essential

  • Temporary/ full GDC Registration with sufficient clinical experience

Desirable

  • Membership/Fellowship in Dental Surgery or equivalent Teaching qualification Postgraduate prizes and awards Evidence of ATLS / ALS / ILS training

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Sound knowledge of oral surgery/medicine and basic maxillofacial surgery Skilled in basic dentoalveolar surgery Experience of running routine local anaesthetic clinics Minimum of 1-2 years' experience at DCT level in OMFS

Desirable

  • Knowledge of more advanced maxillofacial procedures and facial trauma
