Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a Trauma-Informed Mentor to support children and young people across West Sussex through personalised 1:1 mentoring. The role focuses on building confidence, resilience, emotional regulation, and positive engagement, in partnership with Local Authorities.

The position requires at least 2 years' educational experience, a strong trauma-informed approach, and the ability to travel within West Sussex. Flexible hours with a September start support vulnerable learners.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' experience in an educational setting, including mentoring, teaching, tutoring, learning support, teaching assistant, youth work, or similar roles
• Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice
• Experience supporting children and young people with SEND, SEMH, or additional needs is desirable
• Ability to build positive, trusting relationships
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Patient, resilient, and empathetic approach
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
• Driver preferred; alternatively, willingness to travel locally within West Sussex

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 mentoring to children and young people, supporting confidence, resilience and engagement
• Build stable, trusting relationships and create safe, supportive learning environments
• Collaborate with Local Authorities and schools to monitor progress and tailor support
• Maintain regular communication with learners, families, and professionals to track outcomes
